In 2001 I was admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona by the Supreme Court of Arizona and that same year I opened the law office of Kanu & Associates, P.C. representing companies and individuals on Small Business matters, Immigration Law and Criminal Defense. Although Kanu & Associates P.C. is a full service firm handling a variety of legal matters including personal injury, family law, immigration, criminal law and small business representation, I primarily focus on Immigration law, and representation of small businesses. I am both compassionate and aggressive in the way I approach my law practice. My passion is to provide quality and aggressive legal representation in a very cost effective and efficient manner. Apart from being admitted to practice in all Arizona State Courts, I am also admitted to practice in the U. S. District Court, for the District of Arizona, U. S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, and to practice immigration law in all immigration Courts and with the Immigration Service.

My Background: I was born and raised in Nigeria. In 1982, I relocated to India where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Economics in 1985 and a Master of Commerce degree in Business Finance in 1987. I migrated to the United States in 1991 and as usual, held a number of odd jobs, and then worked as a Legal Assistant for two lawyers before heading to law school. In 1997, I relocated to the State of Michigan and attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Michigan. While in law school, I worked as a law clerk for the Presiding Judge of the 54th District Court for the State of Michigan. In 1999, I graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and moved back to California. I worked as an intern in the Licensing Division of the California Attorney General’s Office (Los Angeles). Upon graduation, I continued my work as a Legal Assistant with two lawyers until becoming licensed as an Attorney and Counselor at Law in 2001. I moved to Arizona since then for good.

My Niche: I have been there and done that as an immigrant and so I understand why people come to United States and why they want to stay, live, work and contribute to this great country. They want to be part of this great success and are willing to give it their best. ‘The place of one’s birth does not have to be the place of one’s life or death’. Also, I have started and run businesses and know first-hand how difficult it can be to operate a profitable business without sound legal and financial advice. It has to be done right from the beginning. Furthermore, I have represented many individuals in crimes they even did not commit. I can never forget my very first criminal client in 2002 who was accused of stealing a car and it turned out that he was framed by the same people that were accusing him. I know what it takes to put smiles back in people’s lives and that is what I am all about. I am here to serve.
